In 2009, Lila’s father Don gave her a copper still that became known as “The Alchemist.” With guidance from world-renowned distiller Robert Seidel, Lila learned the art of essential oil distillation, starting with a small still and growing into the 50-gallon Alembic Copper Pot Still still in use today. Every drop of oil carries family tradition, master craftsmanship, and the essence of the Central Coast.
In 2009, Lila’s father, Don, gifted her a copper still that came to be known as “The Alchemist.” This gift marked the start of a new chapter in the Central Coast Lavender story.
What makes it even more special is the training that came with it. Lila learned the art of distillation from Robert Seidel, the world-famous “Guerilla Distiller” and President of the Essential Oil Company in Portland, Oregon. Since 1977, Robert has dedicated his life to distilling essential oils and hydrosols, sharing his expertise across the globe and teaching others how to maximize their distillation efforts.

The very first still used at Central Coast Lavender was one of Robert’s own designs. Small but efficient, it was the perfect way to begin learning and refining the craft. As the farm grew, so did the distillation process. Eventually, the team upgraded to a 50-gallon traditional Alembic Copper Pot Still, which remains in use today.
Every drop of essential oil distilled here carries decades of mastery and a deep connection to the Central Coast terroir. Each bottle tells a story of family, tradition, and craftsmanship passed down through generations.
