A sachet holds the quietest part of that harvest, the dried flower, which keeps its scent and gives it back at a touch. Each one is hand-painted by the artist Alice Goebel Backman, then filled with dried True Grosso grown on the organic estate in Paso Robles. No two are alike, and what arrives is a small piece of art that carries the smell of a California summer.
Lavender has long been the herb of memory, a symbol of luck and devotion. Tucked into a drawer or a bag, a sachet becomes part of how a place feels, and asks almost nothing to stay that way.
Living with it
Tuck it among folded linens, into a closet, a suitcase, or a bag. A gentle press now and then wakes the scent again. Kept dry and out of direct sun, it holds for years.
The making
Hand-painted by Alice Goebel Backman and filled with dried True Grosso (Lavandula × intermedia), grown and dried on the family estate in Paso Robles, California. Approximately 5 by 3½ inches. The flower only, nothing added.
