The bottle remembers
An empty bottle weighs very little. The work inside it does not.
Every bottle, a single season's vintage.™
A season of tending. Days spent watching the bloom. A harvest gathered at precisely the right moment. Hours beside a warm copper still, waiting for steam to become essential oil.
One bottle carries all of it.
Months after the harvest has ended, a single drop still remembers the summer it came from. Perhaps that is why we are slow to call it a product. It feels closer to a season that found a way to stay.
For twenty years, every bottle has begun in the same place: lavender grown on our organic estate on California's Central Coast, cut by hand at first light while the field is still cool, and distilled slowly in a copper still. Nothing hurried. Nothing outsourced.
This is Lavandin, Lavandula × intermedia 'True Grosso', a naturally occurring hybrid, loved for a fuller, more resinous aroma than its softer cousin. Sweet and floral, with a soft balsamic, woody finish.
The reward is found in ordinary hours. A drop or two warmed between the palms before bed. A calmer massage at the end of a long day. Linen sprayed and waiting before guests arrive. A bath drawn after an afternoon in the garden.
These small rituals ask little. Over time, they become part of how a home feels. Ritual begins with one drop.
WHY SCENT WORKS
From nose to brain.
When you breathe in lavender's aroma, scent molecules meet receptors high inside your nose. Those sensory cells send nerve signals to the olfactory bulb, the brain's first stop for processing smell.
From there, scent information reaches areas involved in emotion and memory, including the amygdala and hippocampus. This connection helps explain why a familiar aroma can bring back a place, a person, or a feeling.
That is the sensory foundation of an aromatic ritual: a little lavender, a gentle breath, a moment of attention. English Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and Lavandin (Lavandula × intermedia) offer different scent profiles. Notice which one you enjoy and how it fits your day.
The animation illustrates scent signalling. Individual experiences vary; this pathway does not establish a particular health benefit for either oil.

Living with it
Before bed, warm one or two drops between the palms, or rest a drop at the edge of the pillow.
For the body, blend a few drops into a spoonful of carrier oil for a calming massage, or add to a warm bath (mixed into carrier first).
For the home, a few drops in the diffuser, or into unscented linen and room sprays.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Lavandin and English Lavender?
Lavandin is fuller and brighter, more resinous. English Lavender is the softer, sweeter one. See The Tale of Two Lavenders.
How do I use it?
A drop at the edge of the pillow, a few into a warm bath or a spoonful of carrier oil, or a few in the diffuser.
Do you test on animals?
Never. We grow, distill, and bottle by hand on the farm, and we do not test on animals.
Is it pure?
Yes. A complete, unadulterated essential oil, rested before it reaches you. Never for internal use.
What should I pair it with?
Its counterpart in The Essential Oil Duo, or any of our balms and mists.
Packaging and recycling
Many of our packaging components are recyclable. We recommend taking them apart before sorting: remove labels, pumps, and caps. Our aluminium bottles are recyclable, so separate the cap first. Bottles and jars may be recycled. Labels, pumps, pipettes, and caps go in the waste bin. Pumps and pipettes are also lovely to reuse.
A season of lavandin, kept true and released under its own name.
A closer look at lavender
A familiar name can hold more than one plant. The Tisserand Institute notes that different species within Lavandula produce essential oils with different profiles. A botanical name, such as Lavandula angustifolia, identifies the source plant more precisely than “lavender” alone. That distinction matters when choosing a lavender essential oil.
